The Philadelphia Eagles know that their Sunday night showdown in Los Angeles against Sean McVay and the Rams will be their toughest challenge yet on defense.
Not only will they be going up against one of the best quarterbacks of the modern era in Matthew Stafford, but they’ll also go up against a very specific brand of football.
Few teams in the league run as much motion as the Rams do in 2024. With top receivers like Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles is able to get both out in space in key moments with their pre and post-snap motion. It’s something the defense is preparing for non-stop at this point.
“We’re going to get motion. We know that,” safety Reed Blankenship said. “At the end of the day, we gotta play smart, play with our eyes. We don’t need to overthink stuff.
“I feel like, with what we’re doing, we need to keep it the same … When you start overthinking, that’s when you get lost in all the motion. Just be confident in what you see, and play football.”
Blankenship is part of an Eagles secondary that has become the best in the league in total yards allowed, and second in the league against the pass. A big part of that has been the rookie dominance of players like first-rounder Quinyon Mitchell and second-round slot cornerback Cooper DeJean.
