A private, for-profit institution of higher learning called Musicians Institute (MI) offers undergraduate degrees with a modern music emphasis. The Guitar Institute of Technology was founded in 1977 as an institution with a 1-year vocational education.
Pat Hicks, who created the institution’s organizational structure, and musician Howard Roberts, who created its academic programs, cofounded the school. Rock and roll musicians were to receive a conservatory education from Howard.
